The Toronto Racing Association of Karters and the Mosport International Karting Association will join forces this Saturday May 19th, as the pair contest a combined club race at the new and improved Goodwood Kartways facility. After an extensive upgrade to one of Canada’s most historic karting tracks, the Goodwood Kartways crew is ready to re-open their gates to what is expected to be a massive group of eager kart racers. Track News: Goodwood Kartways – Project Repaving Week Two Report

Work at Goodwood Kartways has definitely hit the finishing straight after a second successful week brought the resurfacing project near completion. All major facets of the project are now complete, and while the track cures this week the crew will hit the bottom of the job list.

“The Crupi Paving crew with support from Con Drain Construction were just amazing to work with,” said track Manager Daniel Di Leo. “They really made the Goodwood job a priority. They had over thirty employees on site last Monday morning with fifteen machines and two spreaders. By midday Tuesday, all paving was complete! All the curbs were backfilled, verging around 900 metres of asphalt was completed, and the track began its curing process with water cooling. It was awesome to see their effort, and it’s awesome to see the track taking its final shape.”

Also ticked off in week two, all edging was done around the track with over 25 yards of soil used to complete the task, and all run-off areas were seeded. Line painting was also initiated, and will be a big part of the third and final week of renovations after the placement of the new exterior curbing outside turn one and on the right side of entry to turn four. All curbs will then be painted red and white, starting corrals and the start/finish line will be painted, and new signage will be posted around the facility. The safety barrier will be installed in front of the turn one retaining wall and the first kart will take to the surface on the week of Monday, May14th.

Excavation began, the oldest curbing was removed, and the planned renovation moved ahead at full throttle.

BREAKING NEWS: Complete Track Repaving Confirmed!
April 20th 2012
Having created over fifty years of karting history on its original racing surface, Goodwood Kartways is about to get a face lift! Plans and schedules were finalized this morning, and the track will close its gate to karting beginning this Monday, April 23, for a three-week span. Crews will begin construction by grinding down the existing top layer, and will continue by laying a new racing surface, curbing, and a few exciting new features for karters. The track will then go through a curing process before re-opening Monday, May 14th, a week before its club schedule resumes and ten days prior to the opening round of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship.

“It’ll cause some temporary pain, but the end result is going to really be something special for the karters,” said track manager Daniel Di Leo. “We’ve done extensive research while in the planning stages and the result is going to be truly incredible. We’re paving with the same mix used at Le Circuit Karting Mont-Tremblant, and really getting things done right with the curbing and some state-of-the-art safety features that will keep Goodwood at the forefront. Of course we ask the karting community to be patient, and promise the final product will be well worth waiting for!”

The resurfacing of the racetrack has the Di Leo family tremendously excited, and they are very quick to point out the latest project wouldn’t be possible without the assistance and involvement of a well known Canadian karting patron...
